Hand-carved Tibetan four-faced Buddha statues are a part of Himalayan Buddhist Art. These statues can be made from wood, bronze, or copper. Ancient Tibetan inscriptions on some carvings include the names of the artists, Buddhist prayers, and the historical circumstances of the carving these carvings document the importance of the Vairochana cult during the Tibetan imperial period.
The four faces of the Buddha represent the four books of the Vedas, which are Hindu scriptures.
This is solid wood, stands around 26cm tall and is very heavy for its size. The wood is unknown but due to its weight it's definately hardwood.
As with most buddha statues there's always a requirement to touch it regularly to promote good fortune, some buddhas it's written that if you stroke the belly of the buddha every day it will bring you luck, with these Tibetan statues it's said that if you stroke the cheek of each face lightly every day you will always have good fortune from now on.
